I’ve been based in Moscow for about a decade. I guess it’s not enough for me to be considered a local, but it allows me to know a little more about Russia than the usual « expat ».

I love politics and news, but I usually get quite upset and frustrated when I see or read reports on Russia and Russian politics. It’s the same old story over and over again no matter what the journalist is supposed to be covering: an old cliché from the Soviet era.

Let me set the record straight. I am not naïve or ignorant. I am certainly the first to understand that today’s Russia is far from being a democracy.

But Russia does not either look like the stereotype Western media is selling us. Russian politics is a lot more complex, subtle and yet interesting than the Soviet/Putinian vertical of power regularly making the headlines.

I will do my best in this blog to write freely about any subject I believe can be of interest, with a special focus on people, events and situations we don’t usually get to see on TV.

I hope you’ll enjoy!!!
